Thank you to the Embroiderers’ Guild

Thank you to the Embroiderers’ Guild

This year, we have been fortunate to have over 50 pieces of work from the Embroiderers’ Guild on display in the house and The Orangery tea rooms.  The exhibition has been celebrating the 300th anniversary of the birth of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, the renowned landscape architect who designed the gardens here at Ugbrooke House.

Embroiderers' Guild & Capability Brown LogoAs the first ever celebration of Brown’s work, the Capability Brown Festival has held a number of events and celebrations across the country, with the Embroiderers’ Guild acting as important Festival Partner.  Using the landscape and gardens as their inspiration, members have interpreted these using fabric and thread to create unique pieces of work.

The Guild welcomes everyone with an interest in any area of embroidery and are proud to be recognised as a voice for raising the profile of textile and stitched art. Members of all ages across the country are involved at whatever level they choose.  In fact, we have seen some brilliant examples from the Young Embroiderers’ Guild form part of the exhibition from children as young as eight years old! The Guild meet regularly to listen to speakers, attend workshops, learn new skills and participate in projects across the country.  You can participate in any area of interest and at any level, whether learning to stitch or a professional artist.

From the team here at Ugbrooke House, we are honoured to have had such incredible examples of your talent on display this season and thank you for all your effort. We are still open until Thursday 22nd September (this week!) for anyone who hasn’t had the chance to see the exhibition yet, and would encourage anyone interested to visit https://embroiderersguild.com to find out more.
